Loyalist College

Gleaners Food Bank and Loyalist College have a great relationship. Our network has expanded over the years. Gleaners work’s cooperatively to provide the following Loyalist College Placements and projects:students help out

Loyalist College Satellite Food Bank:

Gleaners satellites 15 hampers per month to the college and we also provide evening hours each Wednesday 6:30 – 8:30 at our location at 25 Wallbridge Crescent for students to visit. Gleaners Food Bank has made a commitment to support the students to ensure they do not worry about food.

Social Service Worker Program:

Students receive on hands experience interviewing clients, food bank operations, fundraising and client data statistics. jammin for cans

Developmental Support Worker Program:

Students work one on one with a variety of our special needs placements from the following agencies: Pathways to Independence, St. Mary’s Rehab Program., Quinte Brain Injury, Plainfield Children’s Home, QVSS, META, and Hastings County Alternative School Life-Skills Placements.

Chef Apprenticeship Program:

This program has assisted with providing deserts, pizza and soup for Gleaners events. For the past 15 years the Chef’s Program has provided deserts for our 300 volunteers at our Annual Food Drive. Chef Drew and Chef John have also been a great support for the Annual Empty Bowl’s Event by providing delicious gourmet soup and kitchen support.
school chefsBusiness Marketing Program: Students develop strategies to promote Gleaners Fundraising Projects for example: Air Miles, Shamrocks on the Wall, or our Organic Garden (Green Initiatives). The Multi Media Program also created our 1st website.

Students in Free Enterprise:

S.I.F.E. holds a variety of food drives to help Gleaners. They also assist Gleaners by providing volunteers for the Loblaw’s Spring and Fall Food Drives.
S.I.F.E. also partners with the Annual Empty Bowls event by helping with promotion, planning and volunteers for the day’s events. The Empty Bowls Fundraiser raises funds for the QRFSS a collective of area food banks.

Loyalist College Snack Sites:

Gleaners Tri-County Food Network has provided over 15 skids of granola bars to a variety of snack sites located throughout the college and the Pioneer Building. This is an ongoing commitment to help the students.

Loyalist College Food Drives & Events:

Over the years Loyalist College has held a variety of food drives and events for Gleaners Food Bank and the QRFSS. The following events have been held: Sport Tournaments, Corporate Challenge, Tug A Truck, Shamrocks on the Wall, Jamming for Cans, Phones for Food Drive, Air Miles Card Promotion, Empty Bowls, and a variety of Program Food Drives.
