May 1986: Gleaners was created by members of Quinte Labour Council and Quinte Development and Peace. It was housed in St. Thomas Parish Hall.

1987: It moved to the basement of St. Michael's Church for the next 19 years.

1988-2001: A warehouse was donated by the Belanger family to store surplus products and provide space for cold and frozen goods.

1992: A distribution centre on Pine St. opened once a week.

2001: Quinte Regional Food Sharing Shelter (LINK) was established which included all food banks located in Hastings and Prince Edward counties.

Michaelangelo's Cafe (LINK) opened under the auspices of St. Michael's Catholic Women's League

2002: Gleaners Tri-County Food Network was established. (LINK)

July 2007: Gleaners moved to its new home on Wallbridge Crescent.

July 2009: Gleaners Organic Garden was planted.

Gleaners began as a temporary measure to assist those in difficult economic times. We now have three staff members. We own property. We oversee the storage and distribution of a vast amount of food. Yet we have not lost sight of our beginnings. We continue to hope that it is a temporary measure and we work towards that goal.
